Well as I figured, yesterday wasn't as bad as I made it out to be in my mind; and I've had hardly any pain throughout the whole thing. There's really no point in me even taking painkillers at this point. :)
I was so bad yesterday though. I had myself stressed out thinking the worst.
My Dad offered to come with me to the dentist to make sure I was able to drive afterwards and pick up my meds and such. So we got there around noon and I sat in the lobby cracking jokes to Dad to relieve the tension. They called my name after only 10 min of waiting and a nurse led me back to one of the rooms.
The nurse who gave me my painkiller shots was incredibly nice. She really put my mind at ease. Once my mouth was numb the dentist came in and probed around to make sure I couldn't feel anything. He had to give me about 10 more shots and wasn't quite as gentle as the nurse was. I made sure to mention to them beforehand that I have a high tolerance to alchohol and drugs so they'd make sure to use the novocaine liberally. I have
liquid_phoenix to thank for bringing this to my attention. I didn't feel a damn thing the whole operation, which is the way I like it. It took maybe 10 seconds for him to pull each of my three 'normal' wisdom teeth. The impacted tooth took around 10-15 min. Seemed like an eternity...and it's really the only part of my mouth that was sore afterwards. They had to make an incision and drill the tooth some to get it out.
Throughout the whole operation the dentist and the nurse who was helping him had a sort of ongoing stand-up routine going. It sort of helped take my mind off the situation; but after a while the dentist's corny sense of humor started to get on my nerves (no pun intenended). I actually was able to watch alot of the operation because I could see myself in the reflection of the dentist's glasses. Kinda creepy, kinda cool.
In the end it took maybe an hour from the time I arrived until I left; and it wasn't even close to the nightmare that I had imagined.
The rest of the day I spent on the couch watching T.V. and season one of 'Sex and the City'.
I did have sort of an ordeal getting my meds though. When they ran my credit card at the dentist office they charged me way more than they should have accidently. So they voided that charge and put the correct charge through. Well apparently when that happens, it takes awhile for the bank to sort things out; so when I went to get my meds it wouldn't accept the card. I was so pissed. Here I was ready to take some painkillers and just lay on the couch and now I had to run back to the house to borrow some money from my brother....and then back to Walgreens to pick up my prescription. But it all worked out in the end.
So glad to have this over and done with!
